Join a SHPA Committee

Get on Board with SHPA! Join a Committee

Working Together, We Can Accomplish Anything!

One of the best ways to stay in the know with all things SHPA and permanent supportive housing is to get involved. SHPA has several standing committees and we are always looking for new, energetic members to join. See the detailed descriptions below. If you are interested in joining a committee or learning more about the work within the committee, please feel free to inquire via the contact information included with each committee. All committees meet via conference call.

Legislative Committee:

The Legislative committee keeps its ear to the ground on state and federal issues affecting supportive housing and its stakeholders. The committee keeps the membership abreast of proposed and pending legislation, changes in current funding and policies, and lets us know when action is needed. The committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Contact committee Chair Lisa Kuklinski at or SHPA staff David Esposito at for more information.

Governance Committee:

The Governance Committee makes decisions about SHPA's internal operations. The committee shapes the association's by-laws, committee structure, membership policies, and more. It meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. Contact committee Chairs Eileen Higgins at and David Harrison at  or SHPA staff David Esposito at for more information.

Standards & Best Practices Committee:

The Standards and Best Practices committee convenes to establish permanent supportive housing best practices based on the Illinois Dimensions of Quality and other pertinent sources. Involvement with the committee provides opportunities to learn and share practices to help your agency and agencies throughout the state strive for service excellence. The practices shared during meetings help shape SHPA training and technical assistance strategies. The committee meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Contact committee Chair Armando Smith at or SHPA staff Aaron Eldridge at for more information.

Residents Committee:

The Residents committee consists of residents from the membership and direct service staff who work with residents on issues related to advocacy, leadership development, and civic engagement. The committee discusses the various campaigns and projects within the Residents Program, how residents can support the legislative work of SHPA, and peer to peer communication about what is happening in their various communities around the state. The committee meets on the third Tuesday or each month at 2:00 p.m. Contact Aaron Eldridge at for more information.
